What We Believe

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
- Romans 10:17

The following are the core beliefs of Concord Road Church of Christ based on the foundational truths taught in the Bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.

One God, One Trinity

There is one eternal, triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—three co-equal persons in one being (Gen. 1:26; 1 John 5:7; Matt. 28:19). All were present at creation and are uncreated, supreme, and worthy of glory.

The Gospel

We believe the Gospel is the Good News of salvation: Jesus, God’s sinless Son, died in our place to satisfy God’s justice and reveal His grace. Through His resurrection, salvation is offered to all. Humanity, through Adam and Eve, brought sin into the world, creating a rift only Jesus could repair (Rom. 1:16; 5:12; 2 Cor. 5:21; Gal. 3:13; 1 Pet. 2:24; Heb. 10:14; John 3:16).

Son of God

We believe God sent His Son, Jesus, to reconcile us through His sacrifice for our sins (1 John 2:2; Rom. 3:25). Born of a virgin (Isa. 7:14; Matt. 1:23), He lived sinlessly (1 Pet. 2:22), fully God and fully man (Col. 2:9). He was crucified, rose on the third day, ascended to Heaven (Acts 2:24; 1 Pet. 1:3; Heb. 10:12), and will return in glory for Judgment (Acts 1:11; 2 Pet. 3:10).

Salvation

We believe salvation is God’s gift, available to all who hear the Gospel, believe in Jesus, repent, confess Him as Lord, and are baptized for the forgiveness of sins (Heb. 5:9; 2 Pet. 3:9; Titus 2:11; Rom. 10:10, 17; Matt. 10:32–33; Acts 2:38; Mark 16:16).

The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is given at baptism and dwells within us, interceding in prayer and empowering a fruitful life of discipleship (1 Cor. 3:16; 6:19; Acts 2:38; Rom. 8:16).

The Holy Bible

We believe the Bible is God-inspired, without error, and His means of communicating with us today. It is the final authority on faith, salvation, truth, and Christian living (2 Tim. 3:16–17; 1 Thess. 2:13).

Baptism

We believe baptism is the God-ordained moment of salvation, where we receive His grace, are justified, and receive the Holy Spirit for sanctification. Baptism is where sins are forgiven (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; John 3:5; Acts 22:16; 1 Pet. 3:21; Rom. 6:3–4; Gal. 3:27).

The Church

We believe God established the Church as one body with Christ as its head. Begun on Pentecost, the Church grows as God adds baptized believers. Local congregations gather to worship, serve, and share the Gospel, using their gifts for His glory. Elders, as ordained in Scripture, oversee the spiritual life and care of the congregation (Acts 2; Col. 1:18; Eph. 2:19–22; Rom. 12:5; 1 Pet. 2:5; 1 Cor. 12:27; Heb. 10:25; Matt. 28:18–20).
