Monday Motivation | I'm Running on Empty
Christian burnout is real, and it's not a sign that your faith is broken — it's a sign your body and spirit need a different strategy. In this week's Monday Motivation, DJ gets honest about running on empty: a stalled career, health issues, and the kind of exhaustion that makes Monday morning feel impossible before it even starts.
We start with a word you've probably never heard: "karoshi," the Japanese term for death by overwork — a recognized medical crisis in Japan. But before you write this off as someone else's culture, the data says otherwise. Gallup reports the majority of full-time U.S. workers are burned out right now, and a staggering number of adults are languishing — disconnected from purpose even when they're "fine" on paper. Add chronic isolation into the mix (especially for adults over 50), and you've got a recipe Satan knows how to exploit: isolate you, convince you you're the only one struggling, and tell you your exhaustion means your faith has run dry.
That's a lie. Scripture proves it. Job cursed the day he was born. Elijah, fresh off one of the greatest spiritual victories in the Old Testament, collapsed under a broom tree and asked God to let him die. And how did God respond? Not with a lecture. He let Elijah sleep. He fed him. Physical care came before spiritual correction, because God designed body and spirit to work together, not against each other.
From that account, this episode breaks down a practical, three-pronged battle plan for this week:
The First 15 — protecting the first 15 minutes of your morning from your phone and giving it to Scripture instead, before cortisol and digital noise hijack your brain.
The Hard Stop — picking a real end-of-workday time and actually shutting the laptop, even with work unfinished, because rest is an act of faith, not laziness.
The Call — breaking isolation by reaching out to one trusted person this week and being honest about what you're carrying.
