Did Jesus Claim to Be God?
Did Jesus claim to be God? Some people say no. They ask you to show the exact words "I am God." Does Jesus need to say those words to tell you who he is?
This Monday Motivation looks at what Jesus said, what he did, and how the people who heard him responded.
You will see three scenes from the Gospel of John.
John 8:58. Jesus says, "Before Abraham was, I am." He uses the name God gave Moses in Exodus 3:14. His listeners pick up stones.
John 10:30. Jesus says "I and the Father are one." His opponents name the charge. They say he, a man, makes himself God.
John 20:24-29. Thomas sees the risen Jesus and says, "My Lord and my God." Jesus does not correct him.
Then you hear John 14:6. Jesus does not offer one way among many. He says no one comes to the Father except through him.
A claim to be God does not need a modern sentence. Jesus took God's name. His hearers understood the claim. Thomas worshiped him by name.
This video is for you if you hear "Jesus was a good teacher" and want a clear answer from Scripture. It is for you if you doubt, like Thomas. It is for you if you respect Jesus but have not decided who he is.
If Jesus is God, his words carry God's authority. His commands are not suggestions. You don't get to pick which ones to follow.
Three questions for your week:
Who is Jesus to you?
Do you accept him as he is, or as you want him to be?
What has his word asked you to do? What are you putting off?
