Monday Motivation - When You Have to Let Go

D.J. Smith

There are moments in life that expose how little control we really have.

Standing at an airport security line…

Watching someone you love walk away…

Facing a future you cannot manage…

Fear whispers, “What if?”

What if something goes wrong?

What if I can’t fix it?

What if I lose control?

But faith answers differently.

Faith says, “Even if.”

In this Monday Motivation, we talk about the difference between fear living in possibility and faith living in the character of God. This isn’t about pretending fear doesn’t exist. It’s about anchoring it in the truth that God is Almighty — El Shaddai — sovereign, holy, and in control even when you aren’t.

When DJ dropped his youngest son off to study abroad, he had to walk him to a line he couldn’t cross. And that moment became a picture of life itself. There are lines you cannot cross. Outcomes you cannot control. Futures you cannot script.

So what do you do with fear?

Psalm 56:3 reminds us: “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.”

Not if—When.

This message is for anyone:

Sending a child away

Facing medical uncertainty

Navigating job instability

Letting go of something you love

Standing at a line you cannot cross

You cannot control everything. But you can trust the One who controls what you cannot.

This week, replace “what if” with “even if.”

Even if things don’t go as planned.

Even if the road is turbulent.

Even if you cannot see ahead.

God is still Almighty.

And that changes everything.
